Two Russell Springs residents agree to plea deal on child abuse charges

Two Russell Springs residents have accepted plea deals on child abuse charges.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney office reached an agreement with Darren Michael Jones and his attorney ahead of a trial scheduled to get underway this week for the commonwealth’s attorney to recommend an 8-year sentence.

A similar agreement is in place for another person involved in the case, identified as Dakota Jones. A recommendation of an 8-year sentence will also be provided for Dakota.

According to reports at the time, Darren and Dakota were arrested in July 2022 on child abuse charges after Russell Springs Police officers were dispatched to perform a welfare check at the Springs Mobile Home Park off Lakeway Drive.

Once there, officers discovered the floor was covered in trash, food, and bugs, according to police, and social services was called as well as Russell County EMS to check on the state of the children in the home.

According to court documents, Darren is scheduled to appear for final sentencing on June 11, while Dakota is scheduled to appear on May 29.
