Tornado safety drill to take place Wednesday

A statewide tornado safety drill will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, March 2 at 9:07 am central time. The drill is being conducted during Severe Weather Awareness Week, which is being observed now through Sunday, March 6th.

During the drill, the National Weather Service, in partnership with Kentucky Emergency Management, the Kentucky Weather Preparedness Committee, and the Kentucky Broadcasters Association, will issue a test tornado message that will activate weather alert radios.

At the time of the drill, everyone is encouraged to practice their tornado safety actions at home, school, or work.

The tornado drill falls on the 10th anniversary of the infamous West Liberty, KY tornado as the state continues to recover from the deadly December 2021 and January 2022 tornado outbreaks.
