The Lady Laker Softball team defeated Adair County in a thrilling matchup Friday night in a Kentucky 2A sectional matchup, but fell to Warren East on Saturday in the tournament.
On Friday, the Lady Lakers came away with a 9-8 win over Adair County. The Lady Lakers trailed 7-5 in the bottom of the 6th inning, but an Emma Popplewell home run in the 6th inning played a key role in a 4-run inning that led to a Lady Laker win.
Popplewell’s two-run homerun (her second of the season) gave the Lady Lakers an 8-7 lead that they would never relinquish.
Popplewell finished the day 4-4 at the plate, driving in 5 runs.
Sophie Shearer, Payton Kinnett, and Mady Hatchett each drove in a run as well.
Shearer and Tarryn Reynolds each finished with 2 hits on the night, and Shearer scored a team-high 3 runs.
Reynolds picked up the win pitching for the Lady Lakers, going 7 innings and giving up 8 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits and striking out 11 batters, a season-high.
The Lady Lakers were hampered defensively by 4 errors on the day.
The win advanced the Lady Lakers in the 2A tournament, where they lost to eventual section champion Warren East on Saturday by a score of 13-0.

The 5-3 Lady Lakers are back in action tonight when they travel to Barren County for a matchup with the 4-1 Trojanettes. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
