RCH hoping to expand ICU space

Russell County Hospital is hoping to expand its space that is used for intensive care.

CEO Patrick Branco told the hospital board of directors at a recent board meeting that the hospital could likely use COVID funds to perform the expansion.

While the expansion would not include adding beds, as Branco said the hospital doesn’t have the amount of staff needed to work more ICU beds, it would increase the size of the rooms which would make it much more accessible for code situations and other emergency needs for hospital personnel and equipment.

Branco said he planned to return to the board with a cost proposal and timeline at a later date.

Dr. Rick Miles and Dr. LeeAnn Cooper spoke at the meeting too in favor of the expansion.
