Lakers drop district matchup to Metcalfe County

The Russell County Lakers dropped to 3-16 on the season and 0-5 in district play with a 63-55 loss to Metcalfe County Tuesday night.

The Lakers started strong, leading the Hornets 32-29 at halftime, but a disastrous third quarter doomed the Lakers. The Hornets outscored the Lakers 22-6 in the third quarter to come away with the win.

In the second half, the Hornets shot better than 62 percent while the Lakers shot just 39 percent. The Lakers shot 5/9 from three but only 1/4 in the second half.

Rebounds were also a key difference in the game as the Hornets outrebounded the Lakers 30-19. The Hornets came down with 12 offensive rebounds.

Mayes Gosser led the Lakers in scoring with 21 points and a team-high 7 rebounds. Trace Stringer scored 13 points and Braydon Cerrato finished with 6 points.

The Lakers are on the road tonight at South Warren High School in Bowling Green. The Spartans enter with a record of 8-11. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
