Jamestown man arrested in Columbia

A Jamestown man was arrested by Columbia Police on Sunday.

The Columbia Police Department initiated a traffic stop Sunday night on Burkesville Street, shortly before 10 p.m.

After making contact with the driver, the driver, later identified as 35-year-old Paul Downs of Jamestown, denied a request to search the vehicle.

K9 Unit Cally was utilized, and alerted on the vehicle, and a subsequent search yielded suspected methamphetamine and marijuana.

Downs was taken into custody and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, trafficking in methamphetamine and traffic violations.

Officer Trevor Foster was the arresting officer.
