A lawsuit against the Adair County Regional Jail that we brought to you on local news in December will be moved to federal court.
According to the Adair County Community Voice in Columbia, the lawsuit, filed against multiple county officials, the former Adair County jailer, and several jail employees, has been moved from Adair Circuit Court and has now been filed in U.S. District Court in Bowling Green.
According to the newspaper, the lawsuit was moved to federal court following a request by the defendants. One of the attorneys representing the jail employees said because the lawsuit alleges violations of the U.S. Constitution, that creates jurisdiction for the case in the federal court system.
The lawsuit is being filed on behalf of family members of Skylor Turner, who was an inmate at the Adair County Regional Jail when jail employees found him dead from apparent self-inflicted wounds back in Nov. 2021.
