Family of inmate who died at Adair jail files lawsuit

The family of an inmate who died at the Adair County Regional Jail last year has filed a lawsuit against multiple people regarding the incident.

According to the Adair County Community Voice, the lawsuit includes former jailer Joey White, County Judge Executive Gale Cowan, each of the Adair County magistrates, and multiple jail employees.

Skylor Turner was an inmate at the Adair County Regional Jail in Nov. 2020 when jail employees found him deceased. His family, including his brother Patrick, and the mother of his child, Natalie Moore, allege in the lawsuit that jail employees failed to protect Turner, that the former jailer did not provide adequate training, and that county officials operated the jail without adequate funding and staffing and housed inmates in inadequate facilities that were overcrowded.

The lawsuit was filed last week on behalf of Turner’s family by Thomas Carroll, an attorney with Carroll and Turner, PSC, in Monticello.
