Somerset assistant tabbed as new coach for RCHS Football

Somerset Assistant Football Coach Lucas Ford has been tabbed as the new head coach of the Russell County Laker Football team.

The recommendation from the hiring committee is set to go before the RCHS SBDM Council soon and then before Superintendent Michael Ford, according to Russell County High School Athletics Director Michael Carpenter who made the announcement on All Things Russell on WJRS Friday morning.

While he most recently served as an assistant at Somerset High School, Ford has head coaching experience at McCreary Central High School and Caverna High School.

In four seasons at McCreary Central High School, from 2016-2019, Ford compiled an 11-29 record, which included a 7-3 mark in 2016.

In one season as head coach of Caverna High School in 2014, Ford finished with a final record of 4-7, losing to eventual 1A state champion Mayfield in the opening round of the playoffs.

Ford has been involved with the Somerset program for a number of years, including being a staff member on Somerset’s 2009 state runner-up team.

Ford will take over after the retirement of former coach Ryan Richardson.
