Sen. Wise holds town hall in Russell County

State Sen. Max Wise was in Russell County yesterday, hosting a town hall for constituents at the Russell County Public Library.

Wise spoke on a number of topics, ranging from COVID-19 vaccine mandates in school which he said he opposed to sports gaming, an idea he said he was open to if the revenue generated went toward key budgetary issues such as pensions.

Wise said that in his time as a state senator, this upcoming session, which begins Jan. 4, will be the most challenging.

Wise also spoke about redistricting, which is occurring in this session now that census data is available. Some plans being discussed include Russell County being moved out of Wise’s district. He said his message to Kentucky Senate Leadership is to keep his seven-county region intact.

“Well as of right now, there’s nothing confirmed about the maps that are out there,” Wise said. “It’s just the nature of the process of what we do. My ask to the Senate leadership was to keep my district intact. Keep it the way it is. I love the relationships that have been developed in this district and I work hard in these counties. Whatever I’m given, ultimately, I’m a team player and I won’t end my time as a legislator because of a map but at the same time, my will and my want is my district to remain the same as it is.”

Wise represents Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, Russell, Taylor, and Wayne counties.
