Hinton named next Mayor of Jamestown

City Councilwoman Regena Hinton will soon have a new title around Jamestown.

Hinton will take over as Mayor of Jamestown at the beginning of the new year, following current Mayor Nick Shearer’s resignation. Shearer’s final day in office will be Dec. 31.

The Jamestown City Council unanimously approved Hinton as the next mayor at Thursday night’s council meeting by a 4-0 vote with councilman Mitchell Marcum abstaining from the vote.

Hinton will serve as mayor to finish out Shearer’s term, which ends in 2022. The office of Jamestown Mayor is on the ballot for next year’s election.

Hinton said she’s excited to take on the role of mayor, but knows it will come with challenges.

“I’m really excited and really honored that the council members have the confidence in me to do something like this,” Hinton told WJRS News. “I know it’s going to be big shoes to fill. Nick has done a lot and done an excellent job. All I know is that you have to love the City of Jamestown and want the best for it, and it all comes down to the people. I’ll do the best I can for the people of Jamestown because I love the city and everyone in it.”
