New data from multiple state agencies showed that Russell County had fewer automobile collisions in 2020 compared to 2019, but more fatalities.
The report notes 274 traffic accidents in Russell County in 2020 compared to 310 in 2019.
Despite a more than 11 percent decrease in collisions, Russell County saw an uptick in fatal collisions from two in 2019 to five in 2020.
Of those 274 collisions in 2020, 10 involved alcohol and 3 involved a person under the influence of drugs according to the report.
The numbers in Russell County follow a statewide trend of fewer total collisions, but more fatalities.
