School board looking at options to renovate old ATC

The Russell County Board of Education is examining options to renovate the old area technology center to provide space for various groups and teams.

A representative from Sherman Carter Barnhart was at the school board meeting earlier this week to present the board with some possibilities of what would need to be done with the old ATC.

The board is looking at some different options to renovate the building for groups such as the cheerleading team, NJROTC, dance team, and others. Also with upcoming changes to the middle school, some offices will also need to be moved and the old ATC could serve as a temporary space.

“We certainly need the space,” Superintendent Michael Ford said. “For us, this is the time where we look at what is most cost-efficient and we’re looking at being able to use the federal stimulus money to be able to pay for HVAC renovations over there.”

No action was taken at the meeting earlier this week. The presentation was for informational purposes only.
