The 2022 elections are still months away, but some current county officeholders are already announcing their intentions for the next election cycle.
Near the end of Monday night’s fiscal court meeting, Russell County Judge Executive Gary Robertson announced that he will not be seeking another term in the county’s top office.
Robertson is in his third term in office and said Monday he’s had some questions about his plans for next year and a potential fourth term.
“I just felt like I should go ahead and announce tonight that I have no intention of running for re-election for county judge,” Robertson told the magistrates and those in attendance. “It’s wide open and anyone can jump in, but I just felt like I should announce that I have no intention to run. I’ve been in office for three terms and I believe three terms is sufficient. I’m sort of a believer in term limits and I think that’s enough for me, so after this term is over, I’m going to head to the house.”
Robertson, the county’s lone Democrat elected office-holder, has held the office since 2011.
