RCIDA endorses new parkway interchange proposal

The Russell County Industrial Development Authority is endorsing an option from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet that would build a new Cumberland Parkway interchange at Highway 379.

This is what the RCIDA wrote on their website about the possible interchange.

“The Cabinet is asking for feedback on their recommendation, and the RCIDA would encourage you to participate. We strongly feel one of their long-term recommendations should be implemented: The construction of a second Russell Springs interchange with the Cumberland Expressway from KY 379. This would benefit any business locating in the Lake Cumberland Regional Industrial Complex Site One park and make the location more attractive to potential developers. Investments in our industrial sites will mean jobs, growth, and improvements for our community.”

And below is what the transportation cabinet has noted about a possible new interchange.

West of US 127, the Cumberland Expressway’s nearest interchange is 14 miles away in Columbia at KY 55. There has been some interest, including from the online mapping exercise, in construction of a new interchange west of Russell Springs at KY 379. Based on results from an advanced traffic modeling analysis, the new ramps at a KY 379 interchange could expect to have 700 – 1,900 vehicles per day (vpd). This interchange is also expected to reduce traffic on the US 127 ramps, up to 1,200 vpd. The estimated construction cost of this concept is $10 million.
