Homeowner dies in fire on Hales Highway

The owner of a mobile home that caught fire Tuesday evening passed away.

Lynn David Withers, age 60, was pronounced deceased by the Russell County Coroner’s Office Tuesday night, according to Coroner Mark Coots. The cause of the death is still pending an autopsy.

The Jamestown and Russell Springs Fire Departments responded to a fire in the 4400 block of Highway 379 or Hales Highway Tuesday evening around 7 p.m.

Both fire crews working together were able to recover the body of Withers from the fire.

The Russell County Sheriff’s Office, Russell County EMS, Kentucky State Police, and Russell County Coroner’s Office were also on scene. Fire crews were on scene for more than three hours.

The fire is under investigation by Kentucky State Police and the Arson Bureau. WRJS News is told arson is not suspected in the fire, but arson investigators were brought in as a precaution.
