Could a roundabout improve traffic in front of Russell County Middle School?

That’s a question the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is looking at as they evaluate options to improve U.S. 127.

The intersection in front of RCMS is typically a congested part of the highway and the transportation cabinet is looking at some different options, one of which would be installing a roundabout at the intersection of U.S. 127 and French Valley Road.

Here’s what the transportation cabinet had to say about the possibility.

KYTC is currently working with Russell County Schools and two other large manufacturers to provide some separation between the school dismissal and shift changes, which would reduce congestion along northbound US 127. An additional long-term improvement concept to improve traffic through this intersection would be the construction of a roundabout. The estimated construction cost of this concept is $1.2 million.
