Statewide Testing Positivity Rate: 2.4%.
Deaths: We are sad to report 8 new deaths today. We have experienced a total of 444 deaths resulting in a 1.97% mortality rate (about 1 in 51) among known cases. This compares with a 1.48% mortality rate at the state level and a 1.78% mortality rate at the national level. Our hearts and prayers go out to all the families and friends who have lost loved ones.
Hospitalizations: We presently have 20 cases in the hospital. This is 3 more than what we reported yesterday. We have had a total of 1,255 hospitalizations resulting in a 5.58% hospitalization rate (about 1 in 18) among known cases. The state hospitalization rate is 4.97%. The latest data shows that 91.11% of Lake Cumberland’s ICU beds are filled, and 17.74% of ventilator capacity is being utilized.
Total (Cumulative) Cases: The Lake Cumberland District has experienced a total of 22,482 cases since the onset of the outbreak. This means that 10.76% of our total population has been a confirmed case. However, we do not know how many additional people may have had COVID-19 and were either asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic and never tested. Of our total cases, 0.51% are reinfections, and 1.5% contracted the virus after having received at least 1 dose of the vaccine.
Released (Not contagious) Cases: We released 16 cases today from isolation. Released cases include: Adair: 2; Casey: 3; Pulaski: 4; and, Taylor: 7. In all, we have released 97.5% of our total cases.
Active (Current) Cases: We added 6 more cases today than we had deceased and/or released cases. This leaves us with 113 active cases in our district across all 10 of our district’s 10 counties. On 12/10/2020 we were at our peak number of active cases, 1,336.
Where Did Cases Visit Prior to Isolation: The most common places cases visited prior to isolation are (in descending order): Family, Businesses, Medical Facilities, and Schools. Of our active cases, 7% can not be tied back to another known case (community-spread cases).
New Cases: We report that our total case count has increased by 30 today: Adair: 6; Casey: 6; Cumberland: 1; McCreary: 1; Pulaski: 6; Russell: 2; Taylor: 4; and, Wayne: 4. Our current new case growth rate is: 1.001. This means our total case count is projected to double every 907.72 days. The most new cases we ever added in a single day was on 12/30/2020 when we added 301 cases. Today’s new cases include:

A close look at our data may appear that Green’s numbers are off today. This is because we converted one historic case to a suspect case.
We are announcing 8 deaths today. The first death we announce is an 83-year-old female from Taylor who had been hospitalized. The next 7 deaths we announce were added during the Kentucky Department for Public Health death certificate audit process: a 73-year-old male from Adair who passed in July 2020; a 61-year-old male from Cumberland who passed in June 2020; a 76-year-old female from Pulaski who passed in July 2020; a 59-year-old female from Pulaski who passed in November 2020; an 87-year-old female from Russell who passed in December 2020; a 78-year-old male from Taylor who passed in April 2020; and a 61-year-old female from Taylor who passed in May 2020.
We added more cases today than for the same time period last week causing our 7-day average incidence rate per 100,000 to go up. The map below shows the intensity of the current spread.

We encourage our citizens to take the COVID-19 vaccine, which is safe and very effective. Of our 8,355 new cases since the vaccine started becoming available, almost 99% of them had not taken any doses of the vaccine.
