Middle School Lakers are state champions

The Russell County Middle School Laker Baseball team capped off a great season with a state championship over the weekend.

Facing off against Corbin in the championship game, Owen Loy picked up the win on the mound, pitching six innings and giving up just one run on three hits and striking out nine.

Ayden McGowan and Walker Stephens drove in two runs each for the Lakers and Jake Campbell drove in one run.

Mayes Gosser and Jack Shearer led the Lakers with two hits each.

The Lakers knocked off Knox Central in the semifinals by a score of 20-3.

Ayden McGowan picked up the win in that game, pitching three innings and giving up three runs on hour hits and striking out four.

Owen Loy, Ayden McGowan, and Jake Campbell drove in three runs each. Mayes Gosser, Jack Shearer, Parker Riggins, and Carter Stapp drove in two runs each.

Jake Campbell hit a home run in that game.

The Lakers finish with a final record of 21-2 on the season. The Middle School Lakers are coached by Josh Popplewell, Ronnie Popplewell, and Garrett Stephens.
