Laker Baseball team wins 4th district championship in a row

The Russell County Laker Baseball team is once again champions of the 16th District.

Coach David Rexroat’s club knocked off Clinton County 10-1 in Monday’s district championship game, claiming the district title for the fourth consecutive season.

With junior Cody Luttrell on the mound Monday, the Lakers put together a strong pitching and defensive performance, which saw the Bulldogs manage only three hits on the day.

Luttrell went the distance, pitching seven innings and giving up just one run and striking out six.

At the plate, the Lakers kept their momentum rolling from Sunday and scored 10 runs against the Bulldogs.

Maxon Gosser, Evan Hammond, and Aiden Antle drove in two runs each for the Lakers.

Issac Roy hit a home run in the fifth inning to help lead the Lakers to victory. Gavin Gossage led the team in hits with three on the day.

Roy, Luttrell, Nathan Lawson, Nick Aaron, and CJ Vonfumetti were named to the All-District team following the win.

With the victory, the Lakers will host the opening round of the 4th Region Tournament. The region tournament draw is scheduled for Thursday. The Lakers will face off against Logan County, Warren East, or Barren County.
