EF-1 tornado touched down in Monroe County

The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Monroe County yesterday morning, reaching winds of approximately 95 mph and damaging around 30 homes in Tompkinsville.

No injuries were reported from the tornado, which touched down just after 8 a.m., staying on the ground for three minutes and traveling approximately half-a-mile. The tornado was reported to be about 60 yards wide.

Five of those homes were destroyed, according to Monroe County Emergency Management officials. The tornado also knocked down several trees and utility lines.
