Lady Lakers defeat Monroe County 12-10

The Russell County Lady Lakers scored 10 runs in the fifth inning and withstood a late Monroe County rally to come away with a 12-10 win on Friday evening.

The Lady Lakers held a 2-1 lead after two innings and maintained that lead until the top of the fifth inning, when Monroe County took a 3-2 lead. The Lady Lakers responded with a 10-run inning to take a 13-2 lead. The Lady Falcons cut into the lead, but the Lady Lakers were able to hold on and claim the victory, moving to 6-1 on the season.

Katie Owens hit two home runs, driving in three runs and scoring three runs herself. Payton Kinnett went 4-4 from the plate, including two doubles, and scoring three runs. Kinnett, Addy Davis, Kiera Kemp, Emma Popplewell, and Mallie McQueary also drove in runs for the Lady Lakers.

Tarryn Reynolds got the win for the Lady Lakers on the mound, pitching five innings, giving up seven runs and striking out five batters. Natalie Hart earned the save, pitching two innings in relief, giving up three runs and striking out two batters.
