The Adair County Fiscal Court has discussed the possibility of closing the Adair County Regional Jail, and while it seems that the jail will stay open for now, Adair County inmates would likely be housed by Russell County if the jail does indeed close.
The fiscal court in Adair County asked Judge Executive Gale Cowan to look into costs associated with closing the jail. She said she reached out to Russell County, which quoted a cost of $34 per inmate per day, but it was subject to change.
Right now, Cowan said the cost would be around $850,000, so the plan in the immediate future is to keep the jail open. However, the county did tell Adair County Jailer Joey White that they plan to re-evaluate in about six weeks to see where things stand financially.
