Sad news of the passing of Larry “Flash” Wilson

Russell County is mourning today the loss of one of its most well-known citizens.

WJRS News has learned of the passing of Larry “Flash” Wilson, 61, of Russell Springs.

Wilson passed away early Thursday morning at a Lexington hospital, according to reports.

Flash, as he was most commonly known in the community, was known across Russell County and the state as a fixture within the Russell County Middle School and High School Athletic Programs for almost 50 years. Flash was seen as the epitome of what it means to be a Laker, and Russell County High School named its new mascot, Larry the Laker, in honor of Flash.

Each student-athlete that came through RCMS and RCHS knew Flash and loved him, and his love for the Laker sports program was unsurpassed.

Funeral arrangements for Larry “Flash” Wilson have not been announced yet, and we’ll have more on our website later about Flash.
