Fired Albany Police Chief Sues City

A long-time police chief in the City of Albany is suing his former employer, alleging he was fired due to age discrimination.

In a lawsuit filed late last week in Clinton Circuit Court, Ernest Guffey, who had been Albany Police chief since 1996, says he was dismissed from his position without cause and due to his age.

Former long-time police officer Lyle Pierce, who worked under Guffey for many years, became Albany Mayor in 2019 and dismissed Guffey as police chief.

Guffey is seeking compensatory and punitive damages in his lawsuit against the City.
