Residents with a Soon Expiring Driver’s License Get an Extension

Transportation Secretary Jim Gray signed an Order yesterday extending for 90 days the renewal date for all Kentucky operator’s licenses, ID cards and permits.

Secretary Gray said the Order was necessary due to the shutting down of driver’s licensing in Circuit Clerks offices and the closure of many County Clerks offices, both as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. Gray’s Order also applies to commercial driver’s licenses.

Further, the expiration date of vehicle or vessel registration certificates, vehicle license plates, vehicle tag certificates and handicapped parking permits and other deadlines mandated by the Department of Vehicle Registration are also extended for a period of 90 days, subsequent to their current expiration dates and any additional fees for the late renewal will be waived.
