Tourist Commission Met Wednesday

Russell County Tourism Director Janette Marson told the Lake Cumberland Tourist Commission on Wednesday that she is a proponent for pushing the start date of school back to the end of August to allow for additional tourism on Lake Cumberland. She provided the board a school calendar for Metcalfe County Schools for the 2019-20 school year, which shows a start date of August 26th and an end date of May 21st, 2020. The school district calendar planning committee is currently in the process of forming for the 2020-21 school year.

Also, the commission voted to provide a facelift and add new flooring to a portion of the tourism office at a cost of almost $4,000. The current carpet has been in the building since it first opened. The board also agreed to begin researching the possibility to purchase a vehicle to be used by tourist office employees rather than they use their personal vehicle. If a vehicle is eventually purchased, it will be wrapped with Lake Cumberland Tourist Commission branding as to become more visible within the community and for when it travels out of the Lake Cumberland area.

The commission is also expected to have their 2020 Lake Cumberland Visitor Guide to the printer before the end of this month so that it can be mailed out before the upcoming tourism season.
