Unemployment Rate Increases Slightly in Russell County

Unemployment rates rose in 75 Kentucky counties between August 2018 and August 2019, fell in 36 and stayed the same in nine counties, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

Locally, Russell County had a 5.2 percent unemployment rate, up from 5.1 percent in August 2018. Adair County’s rate was 5.2 percent, Casey County was 4.1 percent, Cumberland County was 3.6 percent, Clinton County was 5.1 percent, Wayne County was 5.6 percent, Taylor County 4.6 percent and Pulaski County was at 4.7 percent.

Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 3 percent. Harlan County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 13 percent.
