Drug Arrest in Adair County on Wednesday

An Indianapolis resident was arrested on drug charges on Wednesday in neighboring Adair County, according to the Kentucky State Police.

At approximately 12:58 pm Wednesday, Post 15 received a complaint of a possible stolen tractor trailer traveling on the Cumberland Parkway. Trooper Allen Shirley located the vehicle in the Walmart parking lot in Columbia and made contact with the driver, 55-year-old Lawrence Johnson of Indianapolis, Indiana, who appeared to be impaired, according to the KSP.  Officer Evan Burton with the Columbia Police Department and canine partner, Matt, assisted in the investigation. Trooper Zach Scott and Officer Burton searched the vehicle after the canine alerted on the truck tractor. A large amount of a white crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia were located. Johnson was arrested and charged with DUI 1st (aggravating circumstance), possession of a controlled substance 1st degree 1st offense (methamphetamine), possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and 392 federal safety reg- driving of motor vehicle. Johnson was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail.
