Showers and Storms Today; Hot Weather Arrives Thursday

We are halfway through the work week and our Wednesday is starting off with clouds and some light showers in the area. Our high’s will be in the 80’s today with that continued chance of showers and maybe a few thunderstorms. Here’s the latest hour-by-hour…

You can see what’s left of Hurricane Barry will continue to throw moisture our way leading to those scattered showers and storms. Shouldn’t be anything widespread though.

Warm Weather Arrives

That red area on the map is an Excessive Heat Warning that will be in effect until 7:00 pm Sunday evening and this does include Russell, Clinton, Cumberland, Adair, Casey, Green, and Taylor Counties. Here’s the full text from the National Weather Service in regards to the warning…

Hot and Humid Conditions Expected Thursday Into The Weekend…
…EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM EDT /1 PM CDT/
THURSDAY TO 8 PM EDT /7 PM CDT/ SUNDAY…
The National Weather Service in Louisville has issued an
Excessive Heat Warning, which is in effect from 2 PM EDT /1 PM
CDT/ Thursday to 8 PM EDT /7 PM CDT/ Sunday. The Excessive Heat
Watch is no longer in effect.
* TEMPERATURE…Heat indices ranging from 100 to as high as 110
degrees will be possible each afternoon from Thursday into
Sunday, with the highest heat indices along and west of I-65.
* IMPACTS…Several days of heat indices near or above 105
degrees could have a cumulative impact on some individuals,
especially those who engage in prolonged outdoor work or other
activities. Also, car interiors can reach lethal temperatures
in a matter of minutes. Never leave pets, children, or the
elderly unattended in parked vehicles. The extended period of
high heat and humidity can worsen the effects of heat stress.

There’s the projected heat index values tomorrow afternoon. You can see mostly everybody in the triple digits which will make it feel pretty rough outside. Going to leave you with a graphic with some heat tips on it, please make sure and use caution if you have to be outside during this very warm stretch. As always stay tuned and check back for updates or changes in the forecast.
