Health Department Receives Grant

The Russell County Health Department recently received a $10,000 Kentucky Prevention and Cessation grant to promote, educate and increase the availability of the Freedom from Smoking Cessation class to the community. The Russell County Hospital, Russell County Health Department’s Police and Promotion Department and the Russell County Health and Wellness Coalition will be teaming up to fulfill the grant duties which focuses on a media campaign as well as on the education and cessation classes which the health department and hospital already partner on. The health department’s plan is to use the local doctor’s offices, and the Cardio and Respiratory Department at the hospital to distribute out educational packets to all patients reportedly using any kind of tobacco to educate them on the harmful effects and give them resources to become a non-tobacco user. These resources would include educational literature as well as a Quit Now and Freedom from Smoking Cessation class schedule.
