Debra Lynn Tucker, age 64, Formerly of Jamestown

Debra Lynn (ex-Hopper, ex-Mahan) Tucker, 64, originally from Jamestown, KY, passed from this life Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Fair Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.

Born August 19, 1959, in Russell County, she eventually moved to Lexington and earned her master’s degree in English at the University of Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Sylvester and Auda Mae Wright Tucker and loving son, Michael Gregory Hopper. She was at heart a storyteller, an advocate for Appalachia, and the soul of every party. She embodied the dichotomy of modern feminism, a stay-at-home mother who went back to school for a master’s degree; a published author who could croon karaoke or weave a yarn to her grandbabies. She had a passion for books and spent many years in bookstores, inspiring a love of literature in those around her.

She will be mourned by her living children and grandchildren – Joseph Hopper (Corissa Caudill) and Andrew Hopper (Lydia Shedlofsky), her sister Carol Tucker and her niece Sarah Adams (Justin Adams) as well as her extended family and friends.

We request no flowers. Instead, if you are moved to make a donation in her honor, we would suggest Woodford County Animal Shelter or Global Fund for Women.

A memorial will be held April 27th, 2024, at 11am to 1pm CST at Pine Grove Separate Baptist Church. All are welcome.
