Adair County Man Arrested Following Pursuit and Confrontation with Deputy

An Adair County man is facing multiple charges, including felony assault, following a brief vehicle pursuit and confrontation with a sheriff’s deputy Friday.

According to Adair County Sheriff Gary Roy, Deputy Ricky Shirley was attempting to locate Charles Barker, who was wanted in connection with a felony domestic assault that reportedly occurred Thursday.

Deputy Shirley spotted Barker driving along Jones Chapel Road and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, Barker allegedly refused to stop, leading the deputy on a brief pursuit.

Sheriff Roy said Barker fled to his residence, where he continued to resist arrest and refused to comply with the deputy’s commands.

Barker was eventually taken into custody.

He is charged with second-degree assault involving domestic violence, first-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, driving under the influence with aggravating circumstances, reckless driving, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a vehicle, second-degree disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and third-degree terroristic threatening.

Barker was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail.
