Pulaski County’s Northern Bypass project has been awarded an 85-million-dollar federal grant, bringing total federal funding for the project to 167 million dollars.
Congressman Hal Rogers announced the award Tuesday through the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America program. Rogers says it is the third-largest federal transportation grant in Kentucky history.
The new funding joins 82 million dollars in Community Project Funding that Rogers secured through two earmarks in the fiscal year 2024 and 2026 federal budgets.
According to Rogers, the Trump administration redirected funding previously designated for an offshore wind farm toward road construction and economic development projects. He says he worked to bring a portion of that funding to Southern Kentucky.
The eight-mile Northern Bypass will connect the Kentucky 461 and Kentucky 80 interchange to the U.S. 27 and Cumberland Parkway interchange.
Rogers says the project will advance plans for Interstate 365 and a broader east-to-west connection between Interstate 65 and Interstate 75, continuing into Eastern Kentucky. He says the bypass will help expand economic opportunities across the region.
