Russell Springs Man Killed, Wife Critically Injured in Cumberland Parkway Crash

A two-vehicle collision Wednesday near the Nancy exit on the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway claimed the life of a Russell Springs man and left his wife critically injured.

The collision occurred around noon central time as both vehicles were traveling eastbound—one in the left lane and the other in the right lane. A Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department official told WJRS News the preliminary investigation indicates the vehicles made contact, resulting in one leaving the roadway, entering the median and overturning several times.

The Nancy Fire Department, Pulaski County EMS, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department and two air-medical helicopters responded.

The woman was airlifted from the scene to U.K. Medical Center in critical condition. Her husband reportedly became unresponsive shortly after being freed from the wreckage. He was transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Pulaski County Deputy Coroner Gerald Collinsworth told WJRS NEWS this morning that the victim was a Russell Springs resident in his mid-70s.

Authorities have not released the couple’s names as the investigation continues and relatives living out of state are notified.

Additional information is expected to be released later today. WJRS NEWS will update this story as additional details become available.
