The City of Albany has been awarded a federal grant totaling more than $24,000,000 for construction of a new water treatment plant.
Mayor James Bray announced the $24,800,000 grant Wednesday morning. The funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration.
Bray said work to secure the funding began in 2024, when he submitted the grant application to help provide a long-term solution for Albany’s water system.
According to the mayor, the latest award brings the total amount of funding secured for Albany during his two years and eight months in office to more than $55,900,000.
Bray thanked God, the city’s state and federal partners and Commonwealth Engineers for helping Albany reach what he called a major milestone.
