It was a deadly weekend on Lake Cumberland, where two men drowned in separate incidents Saturday afternoon.
Pulaski County Coroner Clyde Strunk told WJRS NEWS that 65-year-old Ricky Turner of London reportedly jumped from a boat in the Pitman Creek area and did not resurface.
Divers searched until late Saturday night before suspending the recovery operation. The search resumed Sunday morning, and Turner’s body was recovered Sunday afternoon.
A separate drowning occurred in the Wolf Creek area of eastern Russell County.
That was Michael Bray, Emergency Management Director for Russell County.
Russell County Coroner Mark Coots identified that victim as 42-year-old Andy Schmidt of Lexington.
Coots said Schmidt and friends had been camping at Wolf Creek Landing, across the lake from Lake Cumberland Marina.
Schmidt and a friend were swimming when Schmidt began struggling, went beneath the water and did not resurface.
After nearly eight hours, the operation was suspended around 10:30 Saturday night and resumed shortly after 8 o’clock Sunday morning.
