Kentucky State Police have arrested an Albany woman in an alleged case of impersonating a state trooper via text messaging.
According to the arrest citation, on Wednesday, Clinton County Sheriff Ricky Marcum contacted Kentucky State Police Trooper Brandon Poole after speaking with Joe Reamer. Sheriff Marcum reported that Reamer had received text messages from a phone number claiming to be Trooper Poole.
The report states the messages used Trooper Poole’s name and position in an attempt to obtain personal property from Reamer.
Trooper Poole later made contact with a woman identified as Bethany Conatser at a residence on Highway 696. According to the citation, Conatser admitted using a friend’s cell phone to send the messages and identified the text messages shown to her as the ones she had sent.
The citation further states that Conatser told Trooper Poole she used his name because she believed Reamer would feel more threatened and would be more likely to turn over the property.
Conatser was arrested around 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, processed, then lodged in the Russell County Detention Center.
