City of Russell Springs to Add 9-Hole Par 3 Golf Course at City Park

The City of Russell Springs is preparing to add a new recreational attraction to its city park.

During Thursday night’s regular monthly meeting, Mayor Eddie Thomas and the Russell Springs City Council announced plans to construct a new nine-hole, par-three golf course at the park.

Mayor Thomas says the approximately $410,000 project will be fully funded through two grants, with $205,000 coming from a federal grant and another $205,000 from a state grant. He says he signed the final paperwork last week, and construction is expected to begin within the next two to three weeks.

Thomas says the idea for the golf course developed after the city cleared additional property adjoining the park several years ago. He says city officials began looking at creative ways to use the land and consulted with communities in other states that had successfully developed par-three golf courses.

In addition to the golf course itself, plans include a new pro shop featuring men’s and women’s restrooms with outside access, air conditioning, televisions, and gathering space designed to create a welcoming atmosphere for golfers and park visitors alike.

Mayor Thomas says the project is another investment in expanding recreational opportunities and encouraging more people to enjoy Russell Springs City Park.
