Russell County Board of Education Chairman Dick Kazsuk will not face any opposition on the ballot in November, as no other candidate filed to run for the Board of Education seat in District 4 this cycle.
However, questions remain about what will happen in District 2. Board member Eric Selby opted not to seek re-election to the seat and only one candidate filed paperwork to run for the seat, which was Jeramy Coffey.
However, according to state law, Coffey would be ineligible to serve on the board of education due to having a relative currently employed by the school district. The Kentucky School Board Association also notes that a board of education member cannot serve as an officer or employee of a county or city. Coffey is an employee of the City of Russell Springs.
With no other candidates filing to run during the filing period, an eligible write-in candidate could file for the seat. If that doesn’t happen, the school board would be tasked with soliciting applications and advertising the vacant seat within 30 days of the vacancy occurring. The school board would then be tasked with selecting an applicant to fill the vacancy.
