The Russell County FFA Chapter had a strong showing at the regional speaking competition at Campbellsville University.
Members of Russell County’s FFA chapter competed against 12 other chapters in the Lake Cumberland area at the competition.
Three Russell County students finished in the top 2 in their respective competitions and will advance to state competition.
Kendall Melton earned 1st place in Greenhouse Speech. Piper Garmon earned 2nd place in Horse Speech. Baylee Flatt earned 2nd place in Crop Speech. All three also earned Superior ratings from the judges.
Several other Russell County students fared well in the competitions.
Courtney Haynes earned 3rd place and a superior rating in the AIC test.
Blane Smith also earned a 3rd place finish and superior rating in the Swine Speech.
Landon Collins earned a superior rating in Nursery/Landscape Speech, Abby Fox earned a superior rating in the Prepared Public Speech and Makayla Henninger earned a superior rating in Goat/Sheep Speech.
Two students earned an excellent rating in their competitions, which is just below superior. Those students were Lilly Williams in Floral Speech and Bella Parrish in Small Animal Speech.
Melton, Garmon, and Flatt will compete at the FFA State Convention in June.
