A priority piece of legislation for State Representative Josh Branscum from Russell County has passed through committee.
The legislation builds on Branscum’s Kentucky Consumer Data Protection Act, which he spearheaded in the 2024 session and went into law at the beginning of this year.
The law aims to enhance consumer privacy rights in Kentucky and provide residents more control over their personal information that is shared.
This bill in particular deals with automated content recognition and targeted advertising in smart televisions. With this bill, consumers are protected from this kind of data collection unless they opt-in.
