The Russell County Fiscal Court is expected to consider an ordinance pertaining to false alarm calls.
Russell County Judge-Executive Randy Marcum brought up the issue near the end of this morning’s fiscal court meeting, referencing an incident during the winter storm recently in which sheriff’s deputies were called to a residence for a false alarm call, and two cruisers became disabled due to the hazardous road conditions in the area.
Marcum said these false alarm calls cause issues because they often tie up resources for other emergency situations.
Russell County Sheriff Derek Polston said the sheriff’s office often encounters issues of responding to false alarm calls at residences that are not occupied in the winter, so there is no key holder at or near the residence.
Magistrates only discussed a potential ordinance at this morning’s meeting. The first reading of such an ordinance could be presented as early as next month’s meeting.
