RC Search and Rescue rescues 15-year-old who fell from hillside

Russell County Search and Rescue was called out at around 4:00 this morning to an area near the Russell-Pulaski County line.

It was reported a 15-year-old had left his home at around 2 a.m. and slid down a steep hillside, becoming lost and unable to climb out.

Rescuers were able to locate the teen by using a drone and confirmed he was safe, but stuck between two cliff faces.

Rescuers were able to rappel down to the stranded teen and secure him to a harness before hoisting him back up to safety.

Rescuers took him to a nearby waiting ambulance where he was taken to the hospital and treated for mild hypothermia.

Several agencies worked the scene including the Pulaski County Rescue Squad, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Somerset SRT, Russell and Pulaski County EMS, Russell County Dispatch, and Russell County Emergency Management.

Russell County Search and Rescue Chief Chris Money said it was a team effort that made sure the teen was safely rescued and taken care of.
