The Jamestown Police Department could soon be getting a new cruiser.
The Jamestown City Council voted unanimously at its last meeting to advertise for bids for a new police cruiser.
Mayor Regena Hinton said the city will be advertising for bids soon.
Police Chief Jeff Kerns told the council that two of the department’s cruisers have more than 100,000 miles. He said 100,000 miles takes more of a toll on a police cruiser than an average vehicle.
The last three cruisers purchased for the police department have been Dodge Durangos. Kerns said he had recently researched what a new one may cost and provided an estimate of just under $43,000 for the vehicle plus an additional $25,000 roughly to uplift it for police use.
