The Russell County Fiscal Court approved the sheriff’s office budget at a special-called meeting this morning.
Only one change was made. Instead of the sheriff’s office receiving a state advancement to start the new year, the office will receive funds from the fiscal court.
The sheriff’s office typically receives an advancement from the state to start the calendar year to provide funds for the office. That money is paid back as the sheriff’s office receives fees.
Based off discussions during the meeting, the sheriff’s office will operate as normal with this arrangement, but submit invoices for purchases to the fiscal court.
The sheriff’s budget for 2026 includes $1,490,700 in receipts and $1,442,000 in disbursements, with excess fees of $48,700.
