The number of registered voters in Russell County has seen a notable decrease this year.
In January, Russell County had 14,380 registered voters. The latest report for November reported 13,804 registered voters in Russell County, a decrease of 576 voters.
The decrease is the result of voters being removed from the voter rolls by the Kentucky Secretary of State’s Office. Voters are removed from the voter rolls for a number of reasons, including death, felony convictions, moving out of state,
During that time, the number of voters registered with the Democrat Party locally have decreased by about 8 percent, while the number of voters registered with the Republican Party have decreased a little over 3 percent.
In November, about 78.2 percent of registered voters in Russell County were registered as Republicans and about 15.1 percent were registered as Democrats.
Voters who wish to change their party affiliation ahead of next year’s primary election have until December 31 to do so. A change of party affiliation can be done online through the state portal or at the county clerk’s office.
