A portion of Russell County is now considered to be in moderate drought, while the rest of the county is classified as abnormally dry, according to the latest data from the U.S. Drought Monitor.
According to the drought monitor, the northern part of the county, along with some eastern and western portions are classified as being in moderate drought, while most of the southern portion of the county is classified as abnormally dry.
The Lake Cumberland area remains among the driest in the state. Each of the neighboring counties are either in moderate drought or abnormally dry.
The northeastern portion of Cumberland County is considered abnormally dry.
All of Casey County is included in the moderate drought category, while the majority of Wayne County and about half of Pulaski County are in moderate drought as well.
According to the local mesonet station, which is located near the Ono community, about 2 inches of rain have been reported in the last 30 days.
