In accordance with new regulations from state agencies, Russell County Schools is implementing new policies regarding medications at school.
The school district announced a written provider order must be on file before any prescribed medication can be administered to a student by the school nurse.
In the past, a grace period was allowed for submitting this documentation, but the new rule states that grace period will no longer be permitted.
Parents and guardians bringing prescribed medication to school for administration by the nurse must also bring the written order at the same time. If a written order is not brought to the school, the medication cannot and will not be given to the student.
The district is also implementing a new rule regarding over-the-counter medications.
Over-the-counter medications cannot be given to a student without written consent on file. Previously, verbal permission could be given by a parent or guardian over the phone. That will no longer be allowed.
Parents must return the Healthy Kids Clinic registration with the written consent for over-the-counter medications for their student to be allowed to receive medications from the school nurse.
