Hospital board met in special session yesterday

The Russell County Hospital Board of Directors met in special session yesterday and unanimously approved the next step to receive funds for the hospital’s planned expansion project.

As the hospital seeks almost $10 million in tax credits for the project, one of the requirements is to set up a non-profit with a board of directors that will hold the hospital real estate. Russell County Hospital CEO Scott Thompson provided more details.

The board for the entity will be made up of three individuals connected to the hospital and two independent community members.

Thompson said the new entity will not have any power in regard to business dealings or policy for the hospital.

As of now, the hospital board is planning to break ground on the expansion project in the spring.
